I went to the hardware store and purchased one of those multi-drawer organizers - you know the ones that guys use to store all of their nails, screws, and doo-dads, only mine is FULL of brads, rub-ons, eyelets, tags, buttons, clips, 3D embellishments, safety pins, etc. It is FABULOUS having all of my embellishments in one place and saves so much space!
I have a HUGE glass jar that I use to store all of my silk/paper flowers. Not only can I see exactly what I have, but I can reach right in and grab them without hunting, and the jar looks pretty too!
I have a binder where all my stamps are shown. I also have a tray and large plastic container(under the bed) where I store my stamps. I look through the binder for the stamp I want to use, and on the page is location of the stamp, (Tray 1,2,etc.) the place where the stamp is located. Saves going through my many stamps. Helps me!
Here are my tips! *Store your buttons, brads, eyelets and other small embellishments in tackle boxes. They are fairly inexpensive and can be bought at sporting goods stores. I have one tackle box per color, and whenever I need a green embellishment, I just pull out my green tackle box and pick the one that works best. *Store your cut ribbon in jars... it makes it easy to see what ribbons you have, and it also looks pretty! *Store your foam stamps in jars... I always hate the packaging they come in. The stamps have to be put in the exact same place - and if you've used more than a couple, how the heck are you going to remember where they belong! *Store your paper scraps by color in plastic page protectors, and store them right next to your whole paper sheets. My paper sheets are stored in Cropper Hopper vertical storage bins (also by color), and I just put the protectors with scraps in the bin for the same color. *Store your flat embellishments (such as stickers) in office supply 3-ring binders and the regular plastic pages made for them. I have several binders and I organize my flat embellisments by theme. The spines of the binders indicate what theme it contains.[/list]
(I'm still trying to get my "scrapbook room" organized...it's an ongoing/never-ending project.)
However, I have mastered a great way to organize my embellishments that works very well for me. I organize the majority of my embellishments (the ones that fit anyway) into the inexpensive (less than $3/each) "bead organizers" (by Darice) that I purchase at Michael's. I have several of the plastic bead organizers that are full of embellishments (especially metal ones from all of the Making Memories warehouse sales I've been to over the years)! The organizers are very sturdy plastic and stack and store well! They are also somewhat see-through so I can see what's inside without even having to open the lid.
Lorraine says... ... that's a toughie! Since I've painted my family room, I've been trying to organize, re-organize, junk out, clean out my scrap stamp stuff. I could use some good tips. Some things that have worked are using magazine holders for my cardstock (I still use 8x11). Since most of my stuff is SU it's organized by color category I've used up or let my daughter use my older card stock since it doesn't really match what I'm using. My favorite organization recently is for my scrap paper. Again, I sort by SU color group (and once for black and white) and store in 8X11 plastic boxes (w/lift lid). They stack nicely and I can see and use them more easily. Stamps are in tubs by theme (flower, kid, beach/fish, words, bday) - no special tips there. I just have a big collection of stuff - I'm anxious to hear what other people do.
The cute little glass jars that come in the Christmas jams and jellies selections are a great thing to hang on to for storage. They are only about 2 or 2 1/2" tall, but can hold sequins, jewels, beads, etc. that are sometimes a little difficult to store in our larger plastic organizers.
Also, Wal-Mart has a lot items to help with organization and storage that are a lot less money than the craft stores. I found a plastic container for less than one dollar that is the perfect size to store my brass stencils and my sizzix impression templates. They also have a container that our A2 size swap cards and envelopes fit into perfectly and it's under $2.
I usually take things out of the packaging and store like items in jars from IKEA.I also store most of my ribbon in jars sorted by color. My husband plays a lot of tennis and I use the tennis ball cans to store my paintbrushes. I have a few clear acrylic stamps that I store in cd cases. I put my paper scraps in craft keepers sorted by color.
